i’ve got an 05 R6 and it has 4000 miles on it. the factory set of dunlops is worn out and i’m not sure which tires i want to replace them with. im leaning towards the dunlop qualifiers but ive heard good and bad things about all the choices. i’m on a budget so any input would be appreciated
i’m going for long life and good traction. please explain your answers
Dunlops quality control sucks, so after spending your hard earned money you might have a bad tire. I like the pilot powers, a little more money than some but great feedback and traction and decent wear for supersport type tires.
bridgestone
I like the Metzlers for those bikes.
i use pirellis and love em, little softer so they wear out sooner but the grip is worth it.
the diablo series of tire should be good for that r6.
I just replaced the dunlops on my 03 R6 with Michelin Pilot powers. They are a huge improvement over the dunlops. Haven’t tried any other tires yet, but I will probably "stick" with the PP. I bought mine online at motosport.com no tax, no shipping, got both for $244.98. They do make a Pilot Road that is a harder, longer life compound for the same price.
if you put 4000 on those 207’s stick with them they are cheap most sport riders will only get 1700-2000 out of those
I liked the michellin Pilot Powers, for a cheaper priced tire check out shinkos 79.00 front 119.00 rear 120/70ZR17 & 180/55ZR17. they are W rated so there good for 168mph.
I’m not sure about R6s, but I run Avons on my Electra Glide and love them. Friends of mine swear by Metzlers
I have a CBR1100 and I have had a VFR800. They are not in the same league as what you have.
I have had Bridgestone 020, Michelin Metzler’s, Dunlop 207.
The Dunlops gave me 17000 kl (10625m)
The Michelin gave me about the same.
The Bridgestone has given me 22000kl (13750m) on my VFR and about 18000/20000kl (11250/12500m) on my CBR.
Most people here in Western Australia I have ridden with that has a bike like yours prefer the Michelin Pilot Sports, very sticky but not too good on the mileage. the three I have listed above are more a combination tyre, a good all-rounder. Harder compound in the centre with a softer compound on the edges.
But the best tyre for you will make its self known as you ride on different tyres. I prefer the Bridgestone 020’s.
Stay Upright.
My vote goes to the Michelin Pilot Powers. just put a set on my Duc 916 and they kick butt! they are also dual compound – hard centers and soft sidewalls. good cornering grip and long wearing for straight riding. also seems like they are less money than a lot of other premium sport tires. Michelin wants the business bad – because Dunlop really pissed them off a couple years back.
pilot powers of course ,but if you want a set of inexpensive tires i was recently on a trip and had to replace both tires i purchased a set of shinko advance tires i paid only 234 for the tires and installation and was very impressed
Theres nothing wrong with Dunlops, Thats what I use and its what came on your bike. It aint broke so dont fix it…
